Classroom Management 101
If you don’t take the time to authentically get to know at least one thing about your students that is important to them, you will struggle to connect the content.
If you don’t care about your students, you will struggle all year long because when they know you care they will work for you. If they think you don’t care, they will challenge your authority over them daily.
Consistency is the key – many of your students need structure because they don’t have structure at home. Get a routine and stick with it. It will make things easier for you.
Let them see you’re human – it’s ok to make mistakes and be wrong – just remember to own it when it happens.
The old adage – you must give respect to get respect – well that works for teachers, too. You have to give it first rather than just demand it.
